In Pursuit of the American Dream

What a Pain

Last week I had the unpleasant experience to have an appendectomy.  It could not have happened at a worse time since I was in the process of getting ready for the Trump Network convention in Orlando. Here was a basic timeline.

Saturday Jan 8 - Went to dinner with Jacob and Peggy at Krystal's, we got about 19 gut bombers and Jacob ate most of them.  I was expecting indigestion, so I was not surprised when my stomach started hurting Saturday night.

Sunday Jan 9 - Super sharp pain in my belly all day.  I could not sleep or find any wayt to lay comfortably.  I kept getting in the bath tub to lower my pain and get confortable.  I got the dry heaves (bad) Sunday afternoon, I wreched so hard that I burst capalaries in my face.  About 7 PM I knew I must have something worse than an stomach ache.  I asked Peggy to take me to the emergency room.

We decided to stop at Cilantec Clininc figuring it would be faster than the hospital.  They took Xrays and saw something they didn't like and sent me across the street to the emergency room.

At the hospital, they ignored everything I got from Cilantec and did their own tests  They were pretty sure I had Diburticulitis.  They did a Cat-Scan (a first for me) and found that I had an old fashioned appendicitis.

Since my white blood count was double the normal, they know I had a very bad infection, so they decided to operate right away before it had a chance to burst.

About 3 in the morning I went into surgery.  Peggy and David were with me, and Jacob had been dropped off at moms.  Luckily they were able to do the surgery laproscopically.

I recouped in the hospital on Monday and slept a good part of the day.  I had lots of visitors including Rick Wells, the Nolan's, Dad, and even Jacob got to come.

The Doctor wanted me to stay, but I told him I needed to go home.  I had to get ready for the Trump convention.  He made me eat solid food for dinner, and when I kept that down, he let me go home about 8:00 Monday night.

I was in the hospital less than 24 hours, but I still got a bill for $75,000.  That's so funny to me.  The insurance only paid about $5,000.

I was able to go home, rest up on Tuesday, and go to Orlando on Wednesday.  I had staples in my stomach, so I could not lift more than 10 lbs, but everyone helped me out.  Ed Akers was a big help.

I got my stable out earlier this week, and I'm feeling great.  This gave me a scare, so I've been exercising and eating better since the visit to the hospital.  I've been running the last few days, now I just need to keep it up and get healthy in 2011.
